With a long lineage of providing the geospatial platform to previous NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge finalists and winners, and as a charter sponsor deCarta wants to welcome you to this year's competition.

The NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge is under way, once again offering developers around the world the chance to compete for an invaluable prize pool consisting of cash, map data licenses, sponsor licenses and services, and mobile devices. Now in its fifth year, the LBS Challenge has expanded into three regions: The Americas, Europe-Middle East-Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific (APAC).

The NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge calls on developers to build innovative LBS applications that work with mobile phones and/or wireless handheld devices using dynamic positioning technology and NAVTEQ map data.

Entries can be submitted in five categories-Content, Enterprise, Entertainment, Navigation and Social Networking. Winners are chosen by an elite panel of judges comprised of major wireless carriers, industry experts and venture capitalists.

Development Support

• Participants receive complimentary access to NAVTEQ map data as well as tools and platforms from leading location companies to help develop cutting-edge LBS solutions.
• deCarta also has a free Developer Zone workplace for you to design and develop your application on the deCarta platform.

Cash and Prizes: The NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge features a sizeable prize pool valued at over $5.25 million US in cash and data licenses.

deCarta Offers HUGE Prizes to Winners

deCarta will again be awarding one year (ARV: $250,000) worth of licensing of our Drill Down Server® geospatial software platform or Hosted Web Services to the Grand Prize Winner and each of the Runners-Up.

Additionally, we'll make available the beta release of our recently announced deCarta Mobile™ platform. deCarta Mobile is a client/server architecture with an easy-to-use J2ME client application programming interface (API) that provides a framework for rapid development of mobile mapping applications. The platform provides mobile application developers with the ability to easily implement smooth-panning maps, panning, zooming, routing, geocoding, reverse geocoding and pin overlays into their applications. deCarta Mobile Client™ is a comprehensive API that supports the functionality needed for most location-enabled applications used for mobile search, routing and mobile tracking. The API is available for J2ME environments with an iPhone® implementation to follow shortly.

To help the winners and runners-up in all three regions of the competition significantly reduce their first-year overhead costs of commercial deployment, we'll also be awarding complimentary one-year licensing of our Drill Down Server geospatial software platform or Hosted Web Services.

Key Dates

• Registration for the EMEA region is open August 8 — October 31, 2008 (NEW Extended Deadline).
• Registration for The Americas region is open September 5 — November 28, 2008.
• Registration for the APAC region is open October 31, 2008 — February 13, 2008.

Awards Ceremony

• Winners of the EMEA region will be announced during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 17, 2009
• Winners of The Americas region will be announced during CTIA WIRELESS in Las Vegas on April 2, 2009.
• Winners of the APAC region will be announced during CommunicAsia in Singapore on June 17, 2009.
